Highlander Dragon Magick

Welcome and Happy New Year!

DRAGONS – As long as people enjoy (and believe) in folklore, the spirit of these mystical creatures will live on across the world!  Including the fierce Highlander Dragons which fearless knights sought after in the breathtaking countries of Ireland and Scotland.  (And remember . . . in the wonderful world of magick – dragons will always exist)

I’d like to take a moment to mention how thrilled and blessed I feel to have made so many new friends within the last year, while embarking on my “magical” writing journey!   “Wee Darby”  and I have “plenty of surprises” to share . . . .   So all right then . . . . .  please  feel free to grab a cup of tea, (or coffee, in my case), make yourself comfortable, and get ready to help us celebrate!  I hope you enjoy this first post of the new year, (and please note at the bottom of this post to  where to find the new,  “Mark you calendars events” list.Patty with Castle

I love dragons!  It must be my Irish and Scottish ancestry coming out in me  – To this day, I can still hear my beloved, Irish Mum, singing “Puff the Magic Dragon” before sharing a few tales of how fire breathing dragons soared over mystical forests and enchanting castles, come dusk.  In this photo I took in September, I can just imagine a proud contented dragon perched on top of this castle, overlooking the ocean centuries ago.  Can’t you 🙂

I was fortunate to run into a few of these magnificent creatures myself during my last 2 visits to my Mum’s breathtaking homeland – A smaller stone statue found outside Edinburgh, Scotland (which I would have loved to find one for myself to bring home in my suitcase) along with a beautiful crafted statue found in Northern Ireland.  Before we move on, Wee Darby found this gorgeous photographcanstockphoto5679663 Fairy with dragon and thought this would be a grand time to give everyone an idea of what to look forward to in Sea Wolf Magick –  Book 2 of my Highlander Magick Series . . . . ( so keep watching for the unveiling of my new cover)  Sea Wolf Magick is  currently scheduled for release , May, 25th, 2016.

Here’s an excerpt:

“A dark object poked its head between the brawny Highlander’s legs. A beady pair of coral eyes stared up at her. Beth blinked recognizing the creature that woke her and scampered out the cabin door with all her clothes. Her mouth dropped open. She pointed and gaped at the rascal.

“By the Goddess. It’s a miniature dragon.”

“Her name’s Kalista.” A boyish grin crossed Quinn’s face. The petite dragon leapt into his hand and wrapped her lanky tail around his wrist. He cradled her in his arms and stroked her scaly forehead. “She’s one of the last of her kind and means ye no harm. Her takin’ yer clothes was just her way of keepin’ an eye on ye.”        and . . . .

Quinn scratched his jaw, his one eyebrow raised. “I’ve not seen her lower her barbs before. ‘Tis unusual to see her take a quick liken’ to someone. Especially a woman.”

“Then I feel honored.” Beth grinned, cupping the creature’s smooth chin in her fingers. Quite certain this creature could turn from a lovable pet into a ferocious beast if it had a mind to. I wonder if she’s a fire breathing dragon.   (I promise – my readers should be in for quite a surprise with Kalista)

Photos of the two dragons I ran into on my visits – quite lovely, aren’t they!

(Now for some fun!) Please feel free to share the names of dragons that left an impression on you, and why.   Another one of my favorites was DRACO in Dragonheart! This breathtaking dragon’s voice was played by none other than the charming British Actor, Sean Connery! Ohhhhh, (be still my heart! You’ll have to bear with me, I just fell off my chair here) – another sighhhhh!  I’m a GIGANTIC Sean Connery fan!!!!  And of course we can’t forget Gerard Butler, and Chris Hemsworth!   Right! ok Patty, now back to the topic of dragons (ahem) smiling here, (Another interesting fact that some of you might not be aware of – did you know that  Sean Connery also played in another delightful Walt Disney, “Irish”  movie? Can anyone guess which movie?)   I immediately fell in love with Draco’s personality – and of course you can’t help crying at the end of this movie.

  • I LOVE dragons too. Along with Draco, one of my favorites was Kilgharrah, or The Great Dragon in the BBC TV show, Merlin. The poor dragon was imprisoned and chained in a cave beneath Camelot, but Merlin released him. 🙂

The dragon statues are amazing! I can’t imagine how someone carved them. I have just added the one near Stirling Castle to my itinerary when I visit Scotland in the fall.

I thoroughly enjoyed MORTAL MAGICK and can’t wait until May to get SEA WOLF MAGICK! I have the date marked on my calendar. 🙂

Thank you for sharing this wonderful post, Patty! I’m looking forward to the next one.

    Happy New Year!
